Millions around the nation have started adding CBD to their daily routine to promote overall health, as well as to get relief from a variety of different symptoms including chronic pain.
One of these symptoms includes different types of pain, to which 40% of the people that report taking CBD say they use cannabidiol for. Is CBD an effective tool for pain relief, though? What types of pain can CBD help with?
Today, we tackle the big questions about CBD oil for pain with our comprehensive guide on the subject. Let’s dive in to answer some of the most common questions we get about it.
What is CBD?
For the most part, CBD, or cannabidiol, is marketed as the ideal way to add something small into your daily routine to promote general wellness and better overall health.
While we’re not here to make medical claims, the 14% of US Americans that report using CBD state that they use CBD to relieve types of pain, reduce anxiety and calm the mind, stimulate relaxation, lessen inflammation, and much more.
Can CBD Help with Pain?
There aren’t many studies on CBD that include human participants. The ones we do have involve small sample sizes or variables that lessened the overall quality of the clinical trial. Right now, there’s a strong potential that CBD can help with certain types of pain.
However, CBD may not be able to help with all variations of pain. In fact, it’s unlikely that it can tackle every type of pain that we encounter. It does have the strongest promise, though, to alleviating chronic and even severe chronic pain.
Inflammatory Pain
Inflammation can be caused by a variety of conditions: cancer, diabetes, neurological diseases, autoimmune diseases. It can also be caused by arthritis, pulmonary diseases, Alzheimer’s disease, cancer, and cardiovascular issues.
This type of pain has been studied much more in-depth since inflammation. Inflammatory pains are both typically results of arthritis of some type, which affects a large percentage of US Americans. In fact, it’s the leading cause of work disability – arthritis affects over 54 million people or about 23% of all adults in the US.
In a clinical trial on experimental allergic contact dermatitis, the anti-inflammatory properties of cannabidiol were noted. The first demonstration of anti-inflammatory properties CBD might possess in an experimental model, we’re excited to see future research and further studies on the matter.
Neuropathic Pain
We don’t have much data on its effect on humans, other than seeing CBD’s neuroprotectant properties concluded in a compiled review of clinical data and relevant animal studies on the subject.
We’ve compiled a series of animal studies that cover a variety of different types of neuropathic pain. It includes streptozotocin-induced neuropathy, chemotherapy, trigeminal neuralgia, and chronic nerve constriction traumatic nerve injury. The neuropathic pain properties of each condition were lessened or improved upon through various clinical trials.
CBD and Chronic Pain
While neuropathic and inflammatory pain is the two types of most common and most severe chronic pain. There are still others that CBD also has the potential to alleviate. We’re proud to see the milestones CBD has already achieved in helping relieve pain. We look forward to a future where more consumers can be free of symptoms thanks to incorporating CBD into their daily routine.
